Wednesday Mind Hump – Thanks For The Mammeries

Rfduck, intrepid mememeister, has been burning the candle at both ends, so to speak. On the one wing, it's Spring, and a young drake's thoughts turn to one thing – sex. Yes, friends, the Duck has been bitten by the love bug and has quite the welt to show for it. He's met a duck he fancies and they've been noodling around together, spooning and billing and getting it on in every room of the house and most of the offices in the Music Department at the University of Oregon. At the same time, rfduck has been a diligent student confronting another end of semester round of final exams, papers and presentations.

What's a young quacker to do?

Obviously, not much, when it comes to the matter of “The Wednesday Mind Hump,” as the following shall serve as mute testimony thereto:

“Hi everyone! Let's mind hump! Today is Great Northern Beans Day, so we'll just go ahead and use tomorrow's theme - Official Thank You Day. That's all I can think of this late at night! Sorry.”

1. What is your favorite song with "Thank You" or "Thanks" in the title?
Thanks For The Memories, Bob Hope's “signature tune” (1937 - Paramount Music Corp.). I prefer the version sung by Frank Sinatra. It was written by the team of
Leo Robin and Robert Rainger, and recorded by Sinatra on July 20, 1981, in New York.
2. Who do you want to thank, and why?
I want to thank my mother and father for not giving in to the impulse to kill me as I am sure that murderous urge swept over them many times during the fourteen years or so we were together (I was such an angelic child and all (cough cough)).

Thanks for the memory
Of things I can't forget, journeys on a jet
Our wond'rous week in Martinique and Vegas and roulette
How lucky I was

And thanks for the memory
Of summers by the sea, dawn in Waikiki
We had a pad in London but we didn't stop for tea
How cozy it was

Now since our breakup I wake up
Alone on a gray morning-after
I long for the sound of your laughter
And then I see the laugh's on me

But, thanks for the memory
Of every touch a thrill, I've been through the mill
I've lived a lot and learned a lot, you loved me not and still
I miss you so much

Thanks for the memory
Of how we used to jog even in a fog
That barbecue in Malibu, away from all the smog
How rainy it was

Thanks for the memory
Of letters I destroyed, books that we enjoyed
Tonight the way things look, I need a book by Sigmund Freud
How brainy he was

Gone are those evenings on Broadway
Together we'd go to a great show
But now I begin with the Late Show
And wish that you were watching, too

I know it's a fallacy
That grown men never cry, baby, that's a lie
We had our bed of roses, but forgot that roses die
And thank you , so much.

MEME: Wednesday Mind Hump -- Vitamin C Day

Rose Hips - Rosa Rugosa
An excellent source of Vitamin C

Rfduck quacked out the following after nearly choking on a wedge of Spanish Blood Orange, "Happy Wednesday! Let's do another mind hump. Today is Vitamin C day, and that means citrus!"

Name your favorite citrus fruits and your favorite dishes, drinks, desserts, etc. using citrus.

Well now, buckaroos, my favorite citrus fruit is the tangerine, followed by the navel orange and pink grapefruit. I'm fond of fresh squeezed orange juice, lemonade and lime juice in my iced tea. A wedge of lemon on fresh water fish, or a few limes to marinate and “cook” fresh salt water fish is de riguer. My favorite smoothie involves a fresh banana, fresh orange juice, fresh strawberries and lots of ice with a little protein powder to bind it all together. “Cointreau” is a favorite liqueur of mine and is also a wonderful addition to crepes.

Mustn't forget the lemon cheesecake, the key lime pie and the lemon meringue pie with a double espresso with a twist of lemon peel. Let's finish it all off with some fine brandy and a Portuguese cigarillo soaked in a mix of Cointreau and Benedictine. Voila!

Wednesday Mind Hump - Genius Day

Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900), The Critic as Artist, 1891

Rfduck, BDInsanity mememeister extraordinaire, took a moment from his busy day chasing the hot hens in his pond, to expound thusly: “Hi everyone! Ready for another Mind Hump? Today is Genius Day.”

“Tell me who you think is a genius . . .”

Movie director – While it might be popular to say Martin Scorsese or George Lucas, Alfred Hitchcock is who I think of as a “genius” movie director.
Author – Love him, hate him, feign indifference or look down your nose at him, Stephen King is the nearest thing to authorial genius we have today. Enjoy him – he won't be around all that long. And if you think he's just not even close, I offer as an alternative: Kurt Vonnegut.
Musician – This is a tough, tough choice. During my lifetime, the musician closest to a genius in my mind is Andre Segovia. Seconded by George Goebel. Truly inspired masters with that little extra j'ne sais qua...
Historical figure – Hmmm ... anyone I might choose is bound to get me attacked, flamed, contradicted or laughed at. And so it goes:

Alfred E. Newman isn't real [Oh No! Say it ain't so, Mr. Bill!].

Winston Churchill and Franklin Delano Roosevelt are hated as much as they're loved (amongst many).

George W. Bush's genius is so hidden we must send in forensic teams to examine every square millimeter of every “nukeular” missile silo in the United States to find any trace.

Ben Franklin was more insane than genius on his good days, as was Nicolai Tesla...

So I'm taking the easy route: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. At fourteen, for crying out loud!

MEME: Wednesday Mind Hump -- Ex Libris

Rfduck looks up from the Guitar Today his beak was buried in to exclaim, “Hello readers! Here we are again, doing another Mind Hump. I don't like today's theme (Floral Design Day), so we'll discuss books instead.”

What is the last book you read? Mount Misery by Samuel Shem, MD
Who is your favorite character in the book? The recovering alcoholic senior resident (I forget his name and the book is out on loan...)
Did you enjoy the book? Yes, and no. It IS too long by about 200 pages (paperback) and in need of an “Evil Editor” to cut it down to more manageable size. I cringed at some of the horror stories, having witnessed such abuse myself as a student.
Would you recommend the book to others? If you liked The House of God (also by Shem) you'l love this one. Otherwise, read the first 250 pages and if you are still involved at that point, go for the big finish, otherwise, put it down.
