The Air Conditioner on the trailer died this morning. Now a balmy 99 degrees - the highest our thermometer in there goes to. Outside ... it was 97° F in the shade at 3:00 PM.

- Well past (by at least a decade) the half century mark. One foot in the grave, the other on a banana peel at the rim of the abyss and the view from here is disconcerting. I am a former student, pearl diver, cook, truck driver, firefighter, EMT, CEO, Town Fire Warden, mechanic, oiler, marine engineer and computer whiz bang. Mostly I sleep these days in an aluminum tube. And So It Goes... I waste my time reading blogs and kvetching about the weather, playing with our Schipperke sidekick, Ignatz McGraw and waiting hand by foot upon my wife, the Queen of our Hovel, She Who Must Be Obeyed (SWMBO).

Not Maine, Lisa -- Maryland. And so far, despite repeated thunderstorm warnings and tornado watches -- we have survived. Today was a beauty - 76 and low humidity. Makes living here almost a bearable thought. Home to Maine Real Soon Now...
When I was trucking ... I had to deliver to a bakery plant in Hagerstown. The temp was WAY over a hundred;set a record. My truck air-conditioner had gone out ... didn't have time to stop & get it fixed.
My son advised me to "drive in the shade". I remember thinking that I couldn't have felt any warmer had I been wearing a snowmobile suit!
BUT ... I was thinking how it must have felt to be working in that bakery!
