Autumn

Heavy raindrops plopping down upon the living room air conditioner outside my window. The "zzzippp..." sound the satellite receiver makes when the digital signal is deflected by those selfsame drops of rain. The "plop, plop, plink" of dripping water accumulating in the bucket on the stairs (no, I haven't even a tenth of the $20,000 it'll take to replace the leaky roof). High, wild winds are approaching. You can hear the pines east of the house moan in anticipation.

It is Autumn in Maine.

We, too, have lost all of the deciduous leaves and the Juniper needles have turned their sickly, pale yellow, so their drop en masse cannot be far away now. Snow flurries are in the forecast for tomorrow. It is time for this grasshopper to make provision for a return to a warmer clime. I have sworn off ever shoveling snow again...

And so it goes.

MEME: Monday Music Mambo

Rfduck sends “Greetings to all! Today is Emergency Medical Services Day. I think I can connect that to music. At hard rock and metal concerts, you'll often see a mosh pit where poor souls get slammed around.”

1. Who are some of your favorite hard rock and/or metal artists?
See below if you're on the front page of the blog. Also, I'm fond of Credence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Queen, Lenard Skynard – all sorts of bands, actually.
2. What are some of your favorite hard rock and/or metal songs?
Again, besides the ones below, I've got more than 1500 songs in my play lists, dating from 1906 through 2007. The vast majority are from the middle of the period and covers swing, jitterbug, rock and roll, psychedelic rock and hard rock, along with lots of folk and new age. Picking one or two is an exercise in futility. The selection will change minute by minute. Fidelity isn't my middle name. For the sake of discussion, I'm fond of AC/DC's Girl's Got Rhythm, Aerosmith's Walk This Way, and Poison's Unskinny Bop.
3. Have you ever been to a show where someone needed Emergency Medical Services? (I suppose huge festivals don't really count because odds are someone will be using such services eventually while attending.)
Despite having been an EMT, I never worked a “show”. I've dealt with injuries and illness at public events, but they were either races or sporting events.
4. Ever been in a mosh pit? Never. Before my time.

The rules are, there are no rules!!! All you need to do is copy and paste the above questions into your blog and add your responses. After you've finished, return here and leave us a comment so we'll know you've Mamboed. Be sure your Mambo is linked back to http://bdinsanity.blogdrive.com so others can dance too.

Remember, there are no right or wrong answers. If one of the questions doesn't inspire you then simply "pass" it. Just use your imagination and dance like crazy!

If you don't have a blog or you're an exhibitionist *woo hoo* feel free to Mambo right here in our comments section. There's absolutely no pressure ... although it's called the Monday Music Mambo you can Mambo on any day.

Until next time, this is your music-lovin' Mememeister saying have a good Monday and a good Mambo!

The Alphabet Meme

For no apparent reason, other than aggravation (just kidding, dear), Robbie tagged me to participate in this Alphabet Meme. So be it. So I've done it:

A-Available or Single? Neither – I'm happily married and unavailable. Doesn't stop me from flirting, though.

B-Best Friend: Professor Doug (soon to be Herr Doktor Doug).

C-Cake or Pie: Apple pie, cherry pie or strawberry pie with whipped cream.

D-Drink of Choice: Plain Iced Tea in summer, black decaf coffee in winter.

E-Essential Item(s): Glasses, keys, wallet, inhaler, pocket knife, camera, and a book.

F- Favorite Color(s): Didn't I just answer that? Blue on blue, heart ache of heartaches.

G- Gummi Bears or Worms? Neither. I do like the gummi worms on a tombstone or a “dirt” cake.

H- Hometown: Orono, Maine.

I- Indulgence: Chocolate.

J- January or February: February – it's closer to summer.

K- Kids: Six step-children, seventeen grandchildren with another GC on the way.

L- Life is incomplete without: Music. With a melody. Rap, hip-hop and current urban ghetto noise need not apply.

M- Marriage Date: April 1, 1999.

N- Number of Siblings: Two brothers, both dead now.

O- Oranges or Apples? Oranges.

P- Phobias/Fears: Rats. Scorpions. Spider crawling on me (I can tolerate them doing their own thing, so long as I am not directly involved). Death by being burned alive.

Q- Favorite Quote: “Never pass up a chance to take a piss, kiss a woman, hold a baby or honor the dead.”

R- Reasons to smile: Puppies and kittens. Flowers. Smooth paddling/sailing. Success. Young women in springtime. My wife coming in at night from work.

S- Season: Autumn

T- Tag Three: Meanie, Minnie and Moe. If you'd like to do it and no one has tagged you, feel free to blame it on me.

U- Unknown Fact About Me: For such a large man troll, I have small feet.

V – Vegetarian or Oppressor of Animals? Omnivore.

W- Worst Habit(s): Well, I've given up smoking and drinking and chasing women. That just leaves being an opinionated curmudgeon ...

X – X-rays or Ultrasounds? Makes no never mind which I have. I've had both.

Y- Your Favorite Foods: I'm with Robbie ... a rare Prime Rib with horseradish sauce, and asparagus with a Tiramisu for dessert.

Z- Zodiac: I prefer the Open Sea ISO 9650, myself.
